‘Lost’ star, Daniel Dae Kim signs for Hawaii Five-0

Daniel Dae Kim[HMG] – Fans of the CBS drama, Lost are in for a treat; One of the show’s most popular actors, Daniel Dae Kim – who plays Jin Soo Kwon – is in talks for a lead in the new CBS reboot of Hawaii Five-O.

Kim, who has played the Korean businessman since Lost’s first season in 2004, has now signed for the role of Detective Chin Ho Kelly, originally played in the iconic series by Kam Fong, who died in 2002.

While born in South Korea, 41-year old Dan was raised in Pennsylvania and New York but moved to Hawaii when he landed the role of Kwon. He’s since opened a restaurant there called ‘The Counter,’ and this new job will keep him in the tropical paradise for many years yet – assuming the reboot’s a hit.

The original Hawaii Five-0, which ran for ten years from 1968, concerned an elite branch of Hawaii’s State Police, headed by Detective Steve Garrett.  Originally played by the late Jack Lord that role has yet to be cast, but ‘Moonlight’ star Alex O’Loughlin is the favorite according to the Reporter, and is still in talks for the part.

The reboot comes from the same minds who created 2008’s FBI drama, ‘Fringe.’ So the chance of success looks quite good. But until Det. Garrett is cast production can’t start, and the whole project’s been stalled and re-started for months.

If a firm debut date ever comes we’ll let you know…
