Sam Mendes Set to Helm James Bond?

Sam Mendes and wife actress Kate Winslet(HMG) – Oscar-winning British film-maker Sam Mendes may have 007 in his future, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Mendes (”American Beauty,” “Revolutionary Road,” “Road to Perdition”) is now in talks to direct the next James Bond movie in what would be his first proper action film, and in return he would be the first Oscar-winning director to helm a film in the franchise.  Mendes married to Kate Winslet, is currently attached to take the reins on the movie adaption of comic book series “Preacher.”

The 23rd 007 film may go into production as early as June, with the aim of a 2011 release, so there is a sense of urgency to get a director on board.  Daniel Craig who had a pivotal role in “Road to Perdition” will return for his third outing as Bond, as will screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who worked on both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. They will be joined by Peter Morgan, of The Queen and Frost/Nixon fame.  Last year’s Quantum of Solace, which made $586m worldwide, was directed by Marc Forster, who also shot Afghan drama The Kite Runner and the Oscar-winning Monster’s Ball.
