[HMG] – After evading Police since the end of October, Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi have been arrested in Texas. But not without snags.
In what may become the sad epilogue to a career whose stunning potential was clearly defined in his nomination for an Oscar at just 21, Randy, now 59, was arrested at his home in Marfa, Texas yesterday, and he and his wife will now be extradited to California to face charges of allegedly defrauding a Santa Barbara hotel of $10,000.
Police arrived at Randy’s home on Saturday to arrest the couple, but the warrant for Randy was apparently no good. So the Officers arrested just Evi, then returned for Randy on Sunday – with a now spell-checked warrant that secured his arrest.
The alleged felons are now cooling their heels at the Hudspeth County Jail, awaiting an application for bail. But officials tell the San Jose Examiner they doubt whether Randy has the $80,000 needed to make this occur.
Both are therefore still guests of the local PD, and could be there until trial if he can’t find the cash.
Police records show Randy and his wife ran up the $10,000 tab at Santa Barbara’s upscale ‘San Ysidro Ranch,’ but their credit card was declined. They assured management a new card was en-route and were allowed to continue their stay. But the card never arrived, and they took off a week later without clearing the bill.
