Creature from the Black Lagoon still drowning in fail

Creature from the Black Lagoon still drowning in fail[HMG] – Still holding the record as the worst idea so far conceived in Hollywood’s brainless crusade to remake every movie, plans to give Universal’s schlock-horror classic “Creature From the Black Lagoon” an pointless do-over have come off the rails…Yet again.

The movie was due to start lensing next Spring, but director Breck Eisner had a creative dispute [read: wanted more money] and departed the project. But a well-regarded director of countless commercials, Carl Rinsch has since taken his place and the project is thus back on track.

With a first-draft script by ‘Spider Man IV’ author, Gary Ross, Universal’s upcoming remake of their unintentionally side-splitting 1954 classic has been in development for over ten years.

That first movie revolved around a monstrous and mythical amphibian creature who terrorized a group of scientists during their tour of Africa’s Amazon basin. So you can see why Universal are having such trouble getting this turkey to fly?

But it’s not for a lack of the talent -  The LA Times says several major directors, from John Landis to Peter Jackson have considered sinking their careers by taking the helm. But so far, no-one will stick.

And if you have a yearning to catch up on movies created before most of your parents were born, the suits at Universal have you covered on that: They’re also prepping a re-tread of their 1966 classic, ‘The Wolfman’ with Benicio Del Toro taking Lon Chaney’s part; And from 1935 come the chain-rattling charms of ‘Bride of Frankenstein,’ which starred Boris Karloff, whom you’ll know from ‘The Grinch.’

So if you ever find someone in Hollywood with an original idea, don’t be concerned – they’re a tourist…
