[HMG] – After twenty years as a fixture of ABC’s ‘Good Morning America,’ Diane Sawyer has confirmed this will be her last week.
“I’ve calculated, and I’ve done 2,881 shows,” Sawyer told the LA Times. “…Roughly.”
For the rest of the week, ABC now plans to recap some ‘highlights’ of Diane’s involvement, including the time when she nearly got all her fellow hosts killed.
“Take a look at the great Sawyer,” GMA’s news-anchor, Chris Cuomo joked as he introduced a clip of Diane driving her fellow hosts through a glaringly-yellow traffic light. “She has no respect for traffic laws.”
The 63-year old Kentucky-born host took her seat on the show as purely a temp job. Now she’s due to become only the second woman in US TV history to front a news show when she takes over at ‘World News’ from Charles Gibson on December 21.
But this causes the mouse-house a problem – Who takes her place? The ABC suits are said to be talking to George Stephanopoulos about taking the job. Some rascals even suggested ABC have built him a high-chair so the 5′6” host can be seen by the cameras…But so far the contract’s still blank.
Once the decision gets made we’ll bring you the word. Meantime, who would you pick?…
